The loss of David Hofmans, Vice President of California Thoroughbred Trainers [CTT], not only leaves our organization bereft, but also deprives our entire sport of the dignity, good humor, vast experience, and professionalism he brought to it.

Any recitation of his numerous wins and accomplishments at all levels of racing couldn’t possibly convey the respect his fellow trainers and his clients will always have for him.  He was an exemplar of horsemanship, judgment, and the heritage of all the best qualities of racing and humanity.

Ryan Hanson

Ryan is a fourth generation horseman. Raised on and around horses, he knew what he was destined for from birth. With his family, Ryan learned everything from breaking babies, gate handling, and riding. A licensed jockey from age 16, he followed in his family footsteps to become a leading rider in the inter mountain region. In the winters, he chariot raced and earned the title World Champion in 2006, a feat his father and grandfather had both accomplished. Once he grew too tall to be a rider, he continued to thrive in the racing business along side his father Jim as an assistant trainer and exercise rider.

Ryan found a niche with his gate work on young or problem horses and in finding “diamonds in the rough”. His most successful claims include AQHA World Champion Distance horse Honoroso and MGSW Fall For It. Moving to Thoroughbreds, Ryan’s solid work in the saddle led to jobs with Graham Motion and Robertino Diodoro, where he galloped horses like G1P Subtle Indian and SW Tusk. Eventually, Ryan worked as Diodoro’s Southern California Assistant.

Ryan hung his shingle in 2017 and, with a growing stable has been able to maintain a 22% win rate currently on the ultra competitive Southern California circuit.
